Even Superman can’t score a record deal if the music is no good. But when radio station WCPR in Biloxi, Mississippi was inundated with phone calls requesting a song called “Kryptonite” by local band, 3 Doors Down, they realized that the band had quiet the following – and was growing by leaps and bounds.
It’s Good to be Queen
Queen Latifah’s first album All Hail the Queen, wasn’t just a title, it was a premonition.
For Dana “Queen Latifah” Owens, the album released when she was just 19, forever branded her as the first woman to make a name for herself in the predominantly male hip-hop world. Latifah burst on the scene, promptly crowning herself. Presumptuous? Maybe, but looking at the scope of her work and overall broad, ranging career, it would make Queen Elizabeth’s life seem… well, boring.
The 37-year-old rapper, songstress, actress, spokes model, talk show host, producer, restaurateur, author, cover girl and record label president (who is about to launch a new clothing line for plus sized clothing for women called Dana O) hasn’t slowed down enough to figure out exactly which hat to wear… maybe that’s why she chose a crown.
Gwen Stefani – No Doubt, More than Just a Girl
No Doubt the name Gwen Stefani conjures up images. The platinum blonde with the powerful voice was belting out the sarcastic pout “I’m Just a Girl,” back in 1995.
Before that, Stefani was just a girl – interested in just routine things. “All I wanted to ever do was get married and have babies… have a house,” she was quoted as saying in 1997 to the Washington Post. Growing up in Fullerton, California, her brother, Eric introduced her to new wave and ska music that was becoming a happening little scene in Los Angeles. Eric had formed a band with John Spence and soon invited his sister to join on vocals. She shared that role with Spence, who later committed suicide leaving Stefani the solo vocalist.

Many public schools in America are graced with names such as Kennedy, Roosevelt and Lincoln, respected presidents, maybe even beloved.
In Tulsa, Oklahoma there is an elementary school that bears the name Roy Clark, country music icon, actor… and maybe even beloved.

Lorrie Morgan: An Artist Who Imitates Life
If it is said that art imitates life, then what about the artist.
For country singer Lorrie Morgan, the lyrics of a stereotypical country song could have been the story of her life. At 47, she has been married five times, currently to fellow country singer Sammy Kershaw. The marriage has not been all love songs; their relationship started when they were both married to other people. They had a brief separation in November 2003, but have since reconciled. Morgan was widowed at 30 when she was married to another country singer, Keith Whitley, who died in 1989 of alcohol poisoning. Her dramatic life also includes losing her father, singer George Morgan, when she was just 16. She also suffered a major blow when she lost her very dear friend, country star Tammy Wynette. Little Richard a Living Legend
Some legendary musicians are just that, legendary, some fade into memories just to have their name and their music become a tough trivia question on a quiz show. Little Richard is not one of them.
Turn on the TV today and you’ll find him, alive, well and still in that seemingly perpetual motion, that high energy that he’s famous for. In a currently airing TV commercial for insurance, you’ll spot him, instantly recognizable, there sits the man known as the “Architect of Rock and Roll,” not many could make one line so funny or so memorable – as he belts out “Mashed potatoes and gravy…cranberry sauce,” followed by the infamous, “WOOOOO,” with an expression on his face that is all at once over the top dramatic and yet in that same instance he’s letting you in on the joke, funny, you can just feel
the smile spread across your face.
